ON THE OCCASION OF HIS BEATIFICATION, THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE RIGHTS OF CATHOLICS IN THE CHURCH PROPOSES THE FOLLOWING LITANY FOR THE INTERCESSION OF POPE PIUS IX:
- Help us to overcome the temptation to follow our own conscience, a practice you condemned in Quanta Cura. Pius IX pray for us.
- Help us to convert all non-Catholics in the world, who are otherwise condemned to hell, as you proclaimed in Quanto Conficiamur. Pius IX pray for us.
- Inspired by your example, help us to continue the persecution of the Jewish people, those "money lusting enemies of the Church," as you described them in your 1873 address. Pius IX pray for us.
- Help us to remember Edgardo Moratara so that we might secretly baptize other Jewish children, and, if necessary, kidnap them from their protesting parents, following your example. Pius IX pray for us.
- Give us courage to condemn scripture scholars who dare subject the prophesies and miracles of the Sacred Scripture to textual and historical criticism. Pius IX pray for us.
- Following your teachings in the Syllabus of Errors, help us to stamp out democracy wherever it may be and protect us from progress, liberalism, and modern civilization. Pius IX pray for us.
- Help us to deprive non-Catholics in Catholic countries of the right to worship publicly. Pius IX pray for us.
- Help us to work to restore Britain's rule over the Republic of Ireland and to condemn the Irish who resist, as you condemned them. Pius IX pray for us.
- Move us to accept your approval of slavery, remembering that it was sanctioned in Scripture. Pius IX pray for us.
- Keep us safe from contact with our fellow non-Catholic Christians lest we be contaminated by their prayers. Pius IX pray for us.
- Teach us about humility as you did with those who had to kiss your foot instead of your ring. Pius IX pray for us.
The Association for the Rights of Catholics in the Church is opposed to the beatification of Pope Pius IX. We offer this litany as a stark reminder to the Curia that this process is absurd and an exercise in Curial cynicism. Beatifying Pius IX on the same day as the beatification of John XXIII makes a mockery of Pope John's saintliness. The beatification of Pius IX makes the church's teachings on social justice, so widely preached by John Paul II, hypocrisy.
