ASSOCIATION FOR THE RIGHTS OF CATHOLICS IN THE CHURCH (ARCC)

The Association for the Rights of Catholics in the Church (ARCC) congratulates the National Catholic Reporter for bestowing the Catholic Person of the Year Award to Sr. Carol Keehan, president of the Catholic Hospital Association (CHA) .  We wholeheartedly endorse the CHA's support for St. Joseph Hospital for the courage of their convictions and the informed moral decision they made to save the life that can be saved.  We believe that Bishop Olmstead would be better advised to honor Right No.2 in the ARCC Charter of Rights in the Church, "Officers of the Church have the right to teach on matters of private and public morality only after wide consultation with the faithful prior to the formulation of the teaching."

We hope and pray that our Catholic bishops learn that, in many areas of life, better informed Catholics can and do give voice to the teaching Spirit of our Church and are determined in conscience to be heard.  We ask our bishops to understand that they too are to be open to the Spirit that will not be limited to Episcopal pronouncements.
